Alleged Felonious Assault.

During an altercation corner of Jay and Walter streets, Saturday evening, a man named John Carroll was severely beaten on the head with a "billy" and also bruised and cut upon the face. He was taken to the Forty-second police station, where his wounds were dressed by Dr. Young, after which he was sent to his home, at the above locality. Thomas Slavin, 26 years of age, a bar-tender at the saloon at the corner of the above mentioned streets, was subsequently arrested by officer Cown for the alleged comminssion of the assault. This morning Slavin was taken before Justice Cornwell, when he set up the plea of self-defense in justification, and the plea being sustained, the complaint was dismissed and the prisoner discharged.
