Tom Slaven Beaten Up At Hospital.

Tom Slaven, former saloon man of this city and who owned the building where the United Cigar store is now located, was severely beaten up in Sacramento Thursday night at the county hospital, where he is nightwatchman. Of the affair a press dispatch has the following to say:

Earl E. Rickett, patient at the county hospital, threatened the lives of attendants at the hospital Thursday night, and attacked Tom Slaven, night watchman, beating him up badly before be could be overpowered by officers. Rickett was removed by deputy sheriffs to the county jail, and is held there, pending examination as to his sanity.

Rickett was taken to the hospital early Thursday evening as a patient. He apparently became violently insane, made threats against the lives of those who went near him, and finally attacked Slaven.

The man is 28 years old, and has a wife, living in Turlock.
