CIRCUS EMPLOYEE TRIED FOR ASSAULT BY JURY

A. Slavin, employee of Barnes Wild Animal circus, went to trial before a jury in Judge J. C. Needham's department of the superior court here this morning on a charge of assault with a deadly weapon. Slavin struck a follow employee, George Hart, over the head with a tent stake, seriously injuring him, during the afternoon the show played Modesto on April 5.

It was expected that the jury would return a verdict before evening. District Attorney Brown prosecuted for the state.
