Woodland, Oct. 24-- Great excitement prevailed at Blacks, Yolo County, yesterday over the capture and subsequent escape of a monstrous gray eagle. Mike Slaven captured the bird near town, its wings having been caught between the barbed wires of a fence. Pending the construction of suitable cage for the bird, the eagle was chained to the end of a stake driven into the ground. The eagle managed to pull up the stake, and with it dangling from the chain, soared off to the distant mountains. The bird measured 7 1/2 feet from tip to tip.
