Last week at Newport, Rhode Island, John O. Slaven, a young man, mixed Paris green with the contents of the coffee pot, intending to remove his father's mistress, brought into the family home since his mother was consigned to the insane asylum. A much-loved sister coming home from school unfortunately drank of the coffee and has since been very ill. Young Slaven promptly surrendered himself as almost distracted by his sister's condition and has the sympathy of the people.

Gedttysburg (Pennsylvania) Star & Sentinel, December 21, 1881.
