Stop the Murderer-- On the evening of the 18th ult., near Newport, Perry county, Mr. William Dugan was cooly and unprovokedly stabbed with a knife by one Thomas Slaven, who made his escape under the cover of night, and has not been heard of since. Said Slaven is about 23 or 24 years of age, 5 feet 10 or 11 inches high, well proportioned, with a fair complexion, writes a fair hand and is a good accountant, and may perhaps offer himself as a clerk. Had on when he fled, a blue roundabout, and dark pantaloons, and without a hat. Three of the fingers on his right hand had been much bruised or mashed a few days before he committed the above crime, by the falling of a stone. Persons interested in the welfare of society will use all vigilance in bringing the offender to justice. -- Perry Forester.

Torch Light and Public Advertiser (Hagerstown, Maryland), June 4, 1829.

Note: Googling for Newport, Perry County, shows that the murder probably occurred in Pennsylvania.
