Edinburgh-- Liability for a Wife's Debts-- Sometime ago Sheriff Rutherford heard proof in an action at the instance of Mr. Mudie, jun., trustee on the estate of Messrs. Frasers & Gray, manufacturers, against Mrs. Eliza Slaven and Mr. Peter Slaven, St. Mary Street, Edinburgh, in which the pursuers sued for £15 9s 10d, being the amount of an account for goods which the defender (mrs. Slaven) prior to her marriage received from the pursuers. They also sued Mr. Slaven, but he denied that he was custodian of her funds. The Sheriff issued an interlocuter finding Mrs. Slaven liable, and ordaining the pursuers to pay Mr. Slaven the sum of £1 17s of modified expenses.
