Rev. J.W. Slavens, one of our best and most highly respected citizens, was doubly bereaved last week. On Wednesday night his wife, Mrs. Elizabeth Slavens, died at the age of about sixty years from an affection of the kidneys, and on the following afternoon his daughter, Miss Ida Bird Slavens, died of pneumonia and la grippe, aged about nineteen. We most sincerely sympathize with Mr. Slavens in his hour of sadness, as well as with many other relatives and friends of Mrs. and Miss Slavens, both of whom were highly esteemed by all who knew them.
