Mrs. Ellen Slavin Dies After Long Illness.

Mrs. Ellen Slavin, widow of Daniel Slavin, died this morning at o'clock at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Edward Yorby of 408 East Tenth street. Mrs. Slavln's death occurred following an illness of several months with cancer. She was born in Cork County. Ireland, on April 3, 1853. She has been a resident of Alton and vicinity since coming to America when she was twenty-five.

She is survived by six daughters, Mrs. E. L. Murray of Bloomington, Ill., Mrs. Edward Dwyer of Quincy, Ill., Mrs. John Lind, Mrs. Thomas Williams, Mrs. Edward Yorby of Alton, and Mrs. Kirby Turpin of Hartford; three sons, John Slavin of Alton, Michael Slavin of Philadelphia, Pa., and Michael Jones of Chicago; two sisters, Mrs. Bridget O'Grady of Ireland, and Mrs. Mary Spellman of Alton; and five brothers, Cornelius Daniel, Michael, and Thomas O'Connell of New York, and William O'Connell of Ireland, and twenty-eight grandchildren.

The funeral will be held Friday morning at 9 o'clock from the old Cathedral to Greenwood cemetery.
