Fred Slavens, 52, died of accidental shotgun wounds some time yesterday in his house here where he was alone. He was discovered by neighbors today.
Mr. Slavens, a well-known and respected member of this community for the past 40 years, had evidently been cleaning a shotgun when it was accidentally discharged, killing him almost immediately. Owing to the fact that he was alone at the time of the accident, it is not known just when the fatal shot occurred.
Mr. Slavens was born in Ironton, Ohio, the son of Daniel Slavens. He came to Montana at the age of 11 and has made his home at Winston ever since. He was a station ary engineer by vocation. He is survived by his widow and three daughters, Mildred, Helen and Marie.
The body was taken to the Connors Undertaking Parlor at Townsend but will be returned here for burial Monday, funeral services being announced for two o'clock with burial in the Winston cemetery.
