Mr. Hiram Slavens died last Saturday night at the home of his son Clay, about one mile west of this place.

Death of Hiram Slavens.

Hiram Slavens died January 15 at his home Clinton township. He was born in Montgomery county, Ky., February 11, 1816. When ten years of age he came with his parents to Indiana, and settled in Monroe township, then wilderness. On January 2, 1845, he and Nancey N. Allen were married. They settled in Clinton township on land Mr. Slavens had obtained from the government. To them were born ten children, eight of whom survive. Mr. Slavens was ill several months previous to his death. Mrs. Slavens, his wife, had preceded him seventeen years. He was a member of the Christian church for about thirty years. The funerai occurred Jan. 16 at Brick Chapel. Services by Elder E.B. Scofield, of Shelbyville.
