An Old Veteran's Death.

The death occurred on Thursday morning at the residence of his daughter, Mrs Jas. McGuinness, of Naraling, of Mr. James Slavin, a very old resident of the district. Deceased, who had reached the advanced age of 88 years, went through the Crimean campaign, and on leaving the army came to West Australia in 1860. He came to the Geraldton district in 1863. After serving in the Enrolled Pensioners Force and in the Police Force be took up land on the Greenough, and resided there for a number of years until the death of his wife. He leaves three sons, Mr. John Slavin, farmer, Isseka; Mr. James Slavin, miner and prospector; and Mr William Slavin, a station hand, and two daughters Mrs Welch, of Kalgoorlie, aud Mrs McGuinness, of Naraling. The funeral took place yesterday at the Roman Catholic cemetery, Geraidton, and was attended by a large number of relatives and friends. The funeral service was conducted by the Rev. Father Hawes and the arrangements were supervised by Mr. G. Lester.
