Man Charged With Trying to Shove a Counterfeit Dollar.

Peter Slavin was held in $500 for court yesterday by United States Commissioner Craig on the charge of attempting to pass a counterfeit dollar at the saloon of John Carlin, 6 Pine street.

The testimony showed that the bartender declined to accept the dollar in payment for a kettle of beer, but insisted on retaining it. The defendant the following day made several attempts to secure the return of the coin and at last was given into custody.
