Man Charged with Peddling Without a License Puts up a Desperate Fight.

J. Slavan of 1522 West Eleventh street was found peddling without a license on West Eleventh street by Patrolman Denman yesterday afternoon, and was arrested.

Slavan had his wares in a wagon, and the policeman jumped upon the seat and compelled him to drive home. As they reached the peddler's house Slavan jumped to the ground and started to run. The policeman had a long chase before he could catch the fugitive, but finally succeeded in capturing him.

Slavan turned upon the policeman and fought him savagely, striking him in the face and struggling with him for ten or fifteen minutes before he could be placed under control.
