A Pretend Policeman.

A teamster named Slevin came down from Toll House last Tuesday with a load of wood, and put up his team and went to sleep in his wagon in the San Joaquin lumber yard. During the night, a man wearing a star came to him and put him under arrest. The pretend officer told him that he would have to go to jail or "put up." The teamster gave him $1.50 and took him into a saloon and treated him.

The police are now hunting for the bogus officer.
