For refusing to testify in the Prewitt murder trial in Hollister yesterday the following alleged conspirators were sentenced to pay a fine of $500 or be imprisoned for 500 days: Henry Watson, Enoch Mylar, N.D. Page, Isaac Slaven, A.M. Thompson, and D.S. Hawkins.
It is believed that the defense will claim that the killing of Powers was an act altogether independent of the conclusion arrived at at the meetings; that the meeting of Powers and Prewitt in the canyon was accidental and the killing in self-defense. All hope of the others of the conspirators testifying seems abandoned, although it is rumored that prominent citizens heretofore on the aide of the defense are using every endeavor to induce relatives among the accused to make a full statement. The prosecution say they are satisfied and confident.
