Chief Overpowered in Fight in Saloon

St. Cloud, Minn., Dec. 18-- A gang last night assualted Chief of Police John Quinlyivan, who was overpowered and recived a bad beating.

The chief was called to stop a fight in the saloon run by Miles C. Slavin. He found a gang in full possession. The chief was overpowered, thrown to the floor and pommeled.

Chief Quinlivan was able to get away and he gathered his force, but when he returned with a squad of police the crowd was gone. A posse of police and citizens searched the town and adjoining country in vain.

The attack is a result of the mayor's recent order putting the lid on saloons.
