Sacramento Items-- Hugh Slavin had officer Craig arrested on Saturday last on a charge of obtaining money under false pretences. Plaintiff is the person who was brought to the station-house by two citizens about a week ago, because, as they alleged, he had created a disturbance when pay was demanded for liquor he had had. In the Police Court the next morning he was acquitted. In his complaint against officer Craig, Slavin says that after the trial he went to the office below and received from the officer the money he had upon his person at the time of his arrest-- about $80; that Criag met him as he was leaving and demanded $5 for fees due the City Attorney; that he at first refused, as he could not see the justice of the thing; then offered $2.50; and finally, upon the officer's persisting in the demand, handed over the $5.
