At Petersburg yesterday afternoon Thomas Slaven, railway employee, met with a fatal accident as he was helping a man named James Harris to sink a well.
Harris was lowering Slaven down 60 ft., and when 40 ft. from the bottom the rope broke. Slaven was hurled down the well and was dreadfully injured. He lingered in fearful agony for about two hours. The deceased left a widow and a large family of small children.
