N.C. Ex-Convict Held As Suspect.

RALEIGH, Sept. 5-- A Tar Heel slayer who finished a term at Central Prison last month is held in Athens, Ga., today as a key suspect in a Mississippi murder.

Athens police Identified him as Alfred "Red" Puckett, 36, Of Lillington, and said he is wanted in Gulfport, Miss., for the gangland style shooting of a Texas underworld figure. The murder victim, F. (Blackie) Slaven, was found riddled with bullets in a Gulfport tourist cabin August 21. Puckett was released from prison August l.
