Severe Wife Assault-- At the Police Court yesterday, before Bailie Paton, a rafter named Patrick Slaven, residing in St. Andrew's Street, was charged with having, on 7th inst., savagely assaulted his wife by striking her with his fists, throwing her down a stair, and thereafter kicking her with his feet, aggravated by his having been previously convicted. After trial he was convicted and sentenced to pay a fine of three guineas, or 20 days' imprisonment.
