There were between twenty and thirty prisoners on the calendar in this court, mostly for drunkenness and other trivial offences, and Messrs. Louis Samuel and R. Benjamin sent them all to the right-about in the short space of twenty-five minutes. One of the prisoners (Patrick Slavin) had such a youthful appearance that Mr. Samuel asked him, How old are you? Slavin: Seventeen. Mr. Samuel (horror stricken): What! Only seventeen years, and drunk. It is disgraceful. I wish we had the power to order you a good whipping.óDischarged, with a caution.
