Faye Slavens

GREENCASTLE- Faye I. Slavens, 77, of Greencastle died Friday in Putnam County Hospital at Greencastle. Mr. Slavens had been employed at Indiana Printing Co. for 12 years before joining IBM In 1954. He retired in 1981 after 27 years. He was a life member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1550 at Greencastle and was a member of Greencastle American Legion Post 58 for more than 40 years.

He was a World War II veteran and served with the Army Air Corps military police in Central America. He was a 1935 graduate of Crawfordsville High School.

He was born April 25, 1916, at Crawfordsville to Jesse and Elsie Irwin Slavens. He married Evelyn Tobin Oct. 25, 1941. She survives. Also surviving are a son, Stephen of Greencastle; three nieces; and two nephews.

He was preceded by three sisters, Edith and Dorothy Slavens who died in childhood, and Lola Rankin, who died May 22, 1941; and two brothers, Glen Slavens, who died July 22, 1959, and Clyde Slavens, Oct. 10, 1965.

Funeral services are scheduled for 11 a.m. Tuesday in Hopkins-Rector Funeral Home at Greencastle with the Rev. Paul Bowen officiating. Burial and military rites will be in Forest Hill Cemetery. Friends may call 4-9 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
