Gerald Eugene Slavens, 53, Carbon, died Friday at Terre Haute Regional Hospital.
Born Sept. 13, 1944 in Putnam County, he was the son of Carl Eugene and Margaret Mae (Cook) Slavens.
He was a correctional officer at the Indiana State Farm at Putnamville, and was a veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps.
Surviving are a son, Michael Lee Slavens and wife Camille, Littleton, Colo.; a sister, Sandra K. Slavens, Terre Haute; his stepmother, Ruth L. Slavens, Greencastle; two stepbrothers, Samuel H. Ballou, Greencastle, and Charles L. Ballou, Kentucky; three grandchildren, Melody, Corley and Leinora Slavens, all of Colorado; four nieces, a great-niece, aunts and uncles.
Services will be conducted at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at Bittles and Hurt Funeral Home, Greencastle, with Rev. Bill Staley officiating. Burial with military honors will be at Wilkinson Cemetery.
Visitation is set for 4-8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
