Glen W. Slavens, 78, a retired Crawfordsville firefighter, died in St. Vincent's Hospital, Indianapolis.
Slavens, who worked at the Crawfordsville Fire Department from September 1932 to June 1957, was making his home in Indianapolis at the of his death. He was a veteran of World War II and was a member of the Christian Church in Crawfordsville. He also was a member of the Eagles and American Legion and a charter member of the Fathers Auxiliary of the VFW.
He was born Nov. 13, 1901, at Crawfordsville, a son of Jesse and EIsie Irwin Slavens.
He is survived by a son, Russell Slavens of Youngstown; a daughter, Rosalie Ann Slavens of Carmel; a brother, Faye Slavens of Greencastle; and four grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a brother and three sisters.
Services will be at 2 p.m.Thursday in Powers Funeral Home with the Rev. Jack Austin officiating. Burial will be in the Masonic Cemetery. Eagles services will be at 8:30 p.m. today at the funeral home with military services conducted at the graveside by Byron Post of the American Legion. Friends may call at the funeral borne after 5 p.m. today.
