Mr. James Slaven died at the home of his son Monroe Slaven in Franklin Township on Monday night, July 17, at the age of 88 years. The deceased had been sick for three months, when death came to relieve his suffering. The funeral was held at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Dodgeville, Thursday, July 20. The funeral was conducted by Father Schoenig in the presence of many relatives and friends of the deceased, after which the remains were interred in the nearby cemetery.
Mr. Slaven was born in County Westmeath, Ireland, emmigrating to this country in early life. He married Miss Hannah Plunket August 18, 1859, who preceded him to the great beyond about seven years ago.
Mr. Slaven was a pleasant Irish gentleman who was beloved by all who knew him. He was a faithful member of St. Mary's Catholic Church for many years.
Mr. Monroe Slaven and family wish to thank their many neighbors and friends for the kindly assistance during the long illness and at the funeral of their beloved father.
