Mrs. Lydia E. Slavens, one of the oldest residents of the city and a resident of Wapello county since 1851, died last evening at 6:30 p.m. at the family residence, 1401 Slavens avenue, Caldwell Park. She was born July 9, 1831, in Indiana.
The survivors are five children: George T. of Hanford, Wash.; H.H. Slavens of Santa Clara, Cal.; Mrs. Bertha Morgan of Kansas City; Mrs. Ollie Dunning and Miss Etta Slavens of this city.
The funeral will be held Saturday at 2 p.m. at the family residence, conducted by Rev. Jonathan Lee. Interment in the Ottumwa cemetery.
