Mrs. Mary O. Slavens, aged 84, passed away early on the morning of July 12, 1937, at the home of:her daughter, Mrs. A.R. Knight in Opelika, Ala., after a week's illness with complications. Mrs. Slavens had been living in Opelika with her daughter for the past 14 years.
She was the daughter of Isaac and Lucinda Jones and married W. H. Slavens at Neosho Falls, Kansas, in 1872. They moved to Yates Center in 1880 and lived there until 1895. Mr. Slavens passed away in 1897.
Mrs. Slavens is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Jessie Slavens Knight of Opelika, Ala.; and Mrs. Queen Simonds of Mount Pleasant, Mich.; one sister, Mrs. Maude Schulter of Kansas City, Mo. and four grandchildren.
Mrs. Slavens was a member of the Methodist church. She was a native of Indiania, being born in Williamsport.
She was always happy and at home wherever she lived and war buried at her request in Opelika beside the body of her son-in-law, Arthur Knight. Funeral services were held Tuesday morning, July 13, at Opelika.
