W.E. SLAVENS OF LINDEN SUCCUMBS
FORMER SCHOOL TEACHER, ATTORNEY DIES IN PHYSICIAN’S OFFICE

Linden, June 15 - William Edgar Slavens, 68, former school teacher and attorney, died suddenly of a heart attack in the office of Dr. J. 0. Rhea at 6:30 o’clock tonight. He had previously been working in his garden and had gone to the physician’s office for consultation.

Mr. Slavens, who taught school at both Shannondale and Darlington, was born at Linden, April 24, 1868, the son of Thomas and Minerva Oliver Slavens. He married Margaret Jane Clark April 13, 1892. The deceased practiced law for a number of years in North Dakota and Linden.

Surviving are the widow, a daughter, Mrs. Julia Bowerman, Crawfordsville; a sister, Mrs. Vebie Lockard, and a brqther, Thomas J. Slavens, both of Linden.

The body was taken to the Proffitt & Sons funeral home and services will be held at the home of the daughter, 108 Morgan street, Crawfordsville, at two p.m. Thursday with the Rev H. H. Elmore officiating. Burial will be made at Oak Hill Cemetery.
