Zelema Slavens.

CENTER - Zelema Gladys Elam Slavens, 95, of Westview Nursing Home, Center, died at 5:45 p.m. Saturday. Dec. 7, 1996, at the nursing home. She had lived at Farber for 31 years before moving to Center in 1986.

Funeral services will be held at 1l a.m. Tuesday at Bienhoff Funeral Home, L.C., Perry, with the Rev. Dale Jorgenson officiating. Burial will be in Lick Creek Cemetery, Perry.

Pallbearers will be Ronnie Beedle, Roy Chrismer, Lowell Jackson, Anthony Elam, and Edwin Slavens.

Visitation will be at the funeral home on Tuesday from 10 a.m, until time of the service.

Mrs. Slavens had been employed in the dry goods store in Perry for two years and was a homemaker.

She was born Jan. 13, 1901, at Perry, a daughter of Eugene L and Sarah E. Riley Elam. On Oct. 20, 1954, she married John D. Slavens at Hannibal. He preceded her in death on June 16, 1995. She was also preceded in death by her first husband, Eugene Costigan, on March 5, 1952.

She is survived by one daughter, Margaret J. Jackson of Center; one brother, Berton R. Elam of Perry; and two grandchildren, four great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.

She was also preceded in death by three sisters, Ina Lucille Steen, Ruby Dee Baumgardner and Margaret Madge Phears; and one great-granddaughter.

Mrs. Slavens was a member of the Perry Christian Church.

The family suggests memorial contributions be made to the American Heart Association.
