A Minister's Assailant Released.

William Slavin, of No. 226 North Fifth street, Eastern District, on Wednesday, July 10, entered the residence of A.P. Stockwell, Pastor of the Reformed Church at Gravesend, and assaulted him. The assailant was overpowered by the neighbors after a severe struggle and was arrested. On the following day he was arraigned before Justice Voorhies for examination. It appeared from Slavin's conduct and his demeanor in court that he was suffering from mental trouble, occasioned by the excessive use of liquor. The examination was adjourned until yesterday afternoon. When it was resumed, Rev. Mr. Stockwell asked leave to withdraw the complaint, expressing the belief that the prisoner was insane when he committed the assault. Justice Voorhies granted the request and Slavin was discharged from custody.
