Was Fanny Really a Shoplifter?

Fanny Slavin, aged 38, of 237 West Fortysecond street, New York, was arrested by an officer of the second precinct last night on a charge of stealing a pair of trousers from the clothing store of Abraham Cohen, at 130 Fulton street. Another pair of trousers, which it is believed were stolen from Wolf & Morris's clothing store, at 307 Fulton street, were also found in her possession. She had visited both places in the company of a man who is described as stout in build and genteel in attire. Mrs. Slavin carried a baby and made it, Mr. Cohen claimed, a shield for her shoplifting operations. Mr. Cohen's clerk observed the woman secret a pair of trousers under the baby's wrap, it is claimed.
