I spent several months in late 2021 studying the North Carolina "Slaven" families, and am continuing to do so. This started with working with a descendant of Richard Harve Slaven/Slavey to take a look at what new records might be available to determine his parentage. From there it grew to reexamining records for all the family lines that are thought to connect to William and Isabel Luckie Slaven/Sleven/Eslevin/etc., and from there to other 18th century Slaven families in the Tarheel state.

Over the next couple months I'll be adding new pages to this section, so check back often. Before reading the other links, be sure to read the first link below discussing the naming conventions that will be used, so you won't wonder "what the heck is a William the saddler?". Like in a lot of families, the same names were used in multiple generations and branches so this is my attempt to help keep them straight.

Naming conventions for this section.

How many Samuels? Adapted from an earlier post about confusing records, which, because of the number of examples I cited, was itself confusing 😂 So we focus on Samuel Slaven/Slavin-- one man or two? Did he die in 1778 or 1781? Or both?

A look at Richard Harve Slaven, part one... When was he born and who were his parents? Probably not what you have in your tree.
